Marcel started training in judo as a child and has continued practicing it to this day. Later, as a teenager, his brother introduced him to traditional Japanese martial arts. This was particularly interesting to him, as it gave him a deeper understanding of the origins of judo and broadened his appreciation of martial arts in general.

What he especially appreciates about traditional martial arts is their diversity. They encompass different fighting styles and techniques, as well as the use of traditional weapons such as the sword and the staff. Throughout his life, he has trained at different dojos and locations across Zurich, learning from a variety of instructors and training partners. He has also had the opportunity to train abroad and meet martial artists from other countries, including during training trips to Japan. These experiences have broadened his perspective and continue to shape his approach as an instructor.
